Section 1
Provides an introduction to BS5609, definitions, and a description of the general requirements and responsibilities.
Section 2
Provides the methods and requirements for testing the label's substrate.
Marine environment (3 months exposure at mid-tide using our test site on the south coast of England).
Peel adhesion to aluminium plates
48 hours after application
After temperature cycling: 7 days at 60°C and 2 hours at 0°C
After exposure to both artificial salt spray and sunlight.
Colour fastness after exposure to artificial salt spray and accelerated sunlight
Dimensional stability after exposure to artificial salt spray and accelerated sunlight
Section 3
Provides the test methods and requirements for testing the printing on the label. The basic requirement is that the label survives at least three months immersed in seawater.
Print key effectiveness: resistance to print removal
Abrasion resistance using a mixture of sand and artificial sea water
Permanence of print: colour fastness after exposure to artificial salt spray and accelerated sunlight
To obtain BS 5609 certification, labels need to withstand a three-month salt water submersion test in the English Channel. BS 5609-certified labels are proven meet the most stringent tests for durability in the industry, and are described as an extremely durable label suitable use in harsh environmental conditions.
Nantong Moonstar printing & technology Co.,ltd is the first factory in China to obtain BS5609 certification. Moonstar purchased materials that meet BS5609 section 2 from the world's most famous self-adhesive material production brand and tried printing. After the company's internal testing, the material that best matches the company's printing ink was finally selected. After preparing the test samples, send them to the Smithers, a testing agency in Europe, which is third-party agency specializing in BS5609 project testing. After three months of testing, the product met the requirements and obtained relevant certificates.
